H 199 is the centrepiece of the museum, being the last remaining Fell locomotive in the world. The wheels are mounted on rollers so the systems for gripping the centre rail can be demonstrated

Inside the van, the guard applied two sets of handbrakes to grip the centre rail for the descent down the grade. As the train descended the grade, the guard continually tightened the brakes as the brake blocks wore down
